he procedure consists of the insertion of a needle into a vein and the withdrawal of blood in small amounts according to body weight. The blood is passed through tubing where it is exposed to an ultraviolet light briefly, the treated blood is then directly returned to the patient's blood stream. The only discomfort is during the insertion of the needle and this is minimal. UVB therapy was first administered to humans in 1928 on a German woman dying of sepsis. She was cured in 2 days of the usually fatal infection. UVB therapy was the treatment of choice prior to the invention of antibiotics for: septicemia, pneumonia, tuberculosis, arthritis, asthma and even poliomyelitis. This therapy is currently in use within the United States, Germany, Russia, and China.
Acute infectious situations are typically treated with one treatment weekly for 6 to 12 weeks according to the doctor's orders.
Ozone therapy can be added to UV blood irradiation to boost bactericidal and anti-viral capabilities. UV blood irradiation creates a 1-3 microgram dose of ozone, which starts a chain reaction creating hydrogen peroxide, oxygen, and enzyme production. Hydrogen peroxide has antibacterial and anti-viral properties when it is created in the blood by ozone. Free radical formation does not occur. When Ozone Therapy is added to UV blood irradiation treatment, ozone generated externally is injected into the blood that has been withdrawn for treatment. This effectively boosts ozone levels and efficacy of treatment.
